Thomas Maitland Cleland
(1880–1964)
Most
of Cleland’s designs for book covers were done between
1907 and 1913 when he served as art editor for the
McClure Company. For an example of his work, see pba00054, Letitia:
Nursery Corps U.S.A. by George
M. Martin. (McClure Co., 1907). Cleland's work was greatly
influenced by the styles of William Morris,
Walter Crane, and Daniel Berkeley Updike.
